Andrew Lawton (MFA, PGA) hails from Melbourne, Australia, and resides with his family in Sea Cliff, NY. He has enjoyed a 38-year career in the arts, one comprising three distinct creative phases. As a child, Andrew was a professional boy soprano and toured the world with The Victorian Boys Choir, one of Australia’s leading children’s choirs. During his senior year, he was the choir leader and a featured soloist.
Throughout his teens and twenties, Andrew trained and performed as an actor, appearing in dozens of plays and musicals, national ad campaigns, and starring on television shows in both Australia and the U.S. He originated the role of Jake Black on renowned Australian series “Neighbours”, and in the U.S portrayed Logan Reilly on ABC’s “One Life to Live”.
Deciding next to move behind the camera, Andrew has spent the past sixteen years directing and producing for Kinetic Studios, a company he owns in Lower Manhattan. He has directed some of the industry’s biggest names, including Adam Driver, Neil Patrick Harris, Helen Mirren, Matthew Broderick, and Liam Neeson for NBC’s A Roundabout Road to Broadway. This television special would win five major awards, resulting in Andrew being welcomed into The Producers Guild of America (PGA) in 2019.
Andrew first moved to New York to teach acting and filmmaking at Stagedoor Manor, a prestigious performing arts camp in The Catskills. Soon after, he was offered a full scholarship to study film and theater at Sarah Lawrence College, graduating with his MFA in 2003.
The son of teachers, Andrew shares his parent’s passion for education and is honored to be leading the development of Lawton Academy of Performing Arts.
